President's 2009-2010 Message
Hello spouses of Marine Corps Aviation!
Welcome to the MAOSC website and the sixty-first year of MAOSC! As the Centennial of Naval Aviation approaches, we want to celebrate our history and move forward with a wonderful 2009-2010 membership year. As one of our goals, our board would like for our group to more fully realize its constitutional objective of “creating a social center of thought, action, and fellowship among the spouses.”
We are initiating new ways to grow our membership to be more inclusive of ALL Naval Aviation spouses of retired, reserve, and active duty personnel involved with aviation. Your help is needed in reaching out to spouses all over the greater DC area, and is crucial to our growth.Giving back to our Marine Corps family and community is another goal we’ve set for this year. Several outreach events are being planned as part of our monthly fellowships. Each outreach will offer our spouses a chance to give back while sharing our time together. We want to have fun while learning something new, and continue to build our friendships in the group and our community. Some of our monthly socials will take place in the evening so that we can be more inclusive of our spouses that can’t attend during the day. One of our evening events is our always fun mixed social, which includes our “significant others” and friends of the aviation community.
You will notice a flat rate fee of $25.00 for all paid day events. This change will avoid the fluctuation from month to month, and any additional monies collected will be transferred to our charitable donations. Additionally, we are moving from an Evite to a web based monthly invitation. Your RSVP, for paid events, will be your payment to our Treasurer, Francine Glavy.
A proposed social calendar for the year can be viewed on the MAOSC website. We will continuously provide updated information on our website, www.MAOSC.net , and I encourage you and your friends to visit frequently and explore the website to stay current on MAOSC news and events. Our Welcome Aboard meeting is on September 22nd at George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate. We are fortunate to have access to the rich history of the Capital area, and I hope you will join us for a delicious and relaxing colonial style luncheon at the Mount Vernon Inn, located on the estate grounds. Our membership representative, 2nd Vice President Michelle Cunningham, will be there to accept your membership form and dues.My many years of association with the Marine Corps have taught me that there simply are no better friends anywhere than Marine aviation spouses.
Thank you to our wonderful board for volunteering your time and efforts to make this year a success for all of us!We look forward to exceeding our club goals, welcoming new spouses to MAOSC, and reacquainting ourselves with friends from previous years. Please join us, and bring a friend, for a memorable Welcome Aboard Luncheon on September 22nd -and an outstanding MAOSC membership year!!!!
Warmest regards,
Rebecca Mathews
MAOSC President
